Festival "Modern adaptations of Anton Chekhov" opens the Year of Russian Cinema in the Rostov region

On the 5th of February the Governor of Rostov Region Vasily Golubev will open the Year of Russian Cinema in the region. The ceremony will take place at one of the sites of the festival "Modern adaptation of Anton Chekhov" that will start on the same day. For six days the residents of Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog will be able to see screen versions of the works of the great writer’s works, visit workshops of Russian and foreign film industry figures.

Festival "Modern adaptation of Anton Chekhov"is organized by the International Motivational Film Festival BRIDGE of ARTS team, a key project in the field of cinema in our region, with the support of Government of the Rostov region. Adaptations of Anton Chekhov's work, both Russian and foreign, will be shown in Rostov and Taganrog cinemas from the 5th and up till the 10th of February.

"Selecting pictures for the Chekhov Festival program we wanted to show all the variety of approaches filmmakers demonstrate shooting the works of Chekhov. Therefore, viewers can see the new films and those that have already become classics. It is also important to pay attention to the fact that Chekhov is one of the well-known authors around the world and hols an international interest to his persona so we also show foreign films based on his works." Said the program director of the BRIDGE of ARTS Anastasia Polyakova.

The screening program includes the films "Diadia Vanya" by Andrei Konchalovsky (USSR, 1970); "Ochi Chernie" by Nikita Mikhalkov (USSR, Italy, 1987); "Predmet Obozhania" Oleg Bazilova (Belarus, Russia, 2014), "Zimniaya Spiachka" Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Turkey-France-Germany, 2014).

A special highlight of the festival will be a Preview of the film "Anton Chekhov 1890" (France, 2015). Rene Feret's film is about the most important stage in the writer’s life: in 1885-1890th he became known among the other writers, wrote his first play for a theater, lost his brother,and was sent to Sakhalin. The film will be shown in Russia for the first time.

The sites for «Modern adaptation of Anton Chekhov" are Dom Kino and "Charlie"cinema network in Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog.

Organizing committee of BRIDGE of ARTS for whom Chekhov Festival is this year's first public event in a series of events aimed at improving the communication activity of the international festival of motivational films and sports, is the one behind orchestrating the visit of celebreties for the mini Checkov Festival. "We are conducting systematic preparations for the main cultural event of our region which BRIDGE of ARTS that will this year take place from the 24th to 28th of August. Almost every month we will hold one or the other interesting event for the residents of the area that will eventually lead us to the August festival. For example, we organize a week of European and Asian cinema, various events related to the promotion of the region." Said the president of BRIDGE of ARTS Oleg Taktarov.
