IV International Motivational Film and Sport Festival BRIDGE of ARTS will take place in Rostov-on-Don on August, 22 - 26. Main competition jury will be presided by Australian director, scriptwriter and producer Bruce Beresford.
International Motivational Film and Sport Festival BRIDGE of ARTS – is a landmark event in the region and one of the main events in Russia. The festival is an open, multidimensional format project comprising motivational films screenings, business cinema and media content forum. Festival days are accompanied by sport and city events, excursions and spectacular concert and show programs. Festival venues attended by Russian and foreign filmmakers are filled with creative multicultural vibes. BRIDGE of ARTS key theme is motivation for achievements and successgoal achievement motivation.
BRIDGE of ARTS 2018 program of Russian and foreign films traditionally comprises competition and non-competition films, event-films and short films nights. This year the festival will include non-competition segments which representing collaborative works of Russian and foreign filmmakers and special thematic programs.
– Every year the festival is expandings the horizons of international cooperation and buildsing bridges for intercultural exchange. The result of Oour partnership with International Film Festival of Kerala (one of the leading events in India) resulted ins inclusion of several unique oriental films into this year’s screening program. Rostov-on-Don hosts such great event as FIFA World Cup and it is in the festival's spotlight. New foreign films about football and art-related documentaries will be shown to viewers, – Elena Larionova, BRIDGE of ARTS program director, said in a statement.
Main competition of the IV International Motivational Film and Sport Festival BRIDGE of ARTS will be presided by Australian director, scriptwriter and producer Bruce Beresford. His best films will be screened in ‘Retro’ special program ‘The Retrospective’.
Bruce Beresford is an eminent Australian filmmaker and profound representative of ‘Australian New Wave’. He is a prize winner of leading cinematic events, a double Oscar nominee, Australian Film Institute laureate, Genie laureate (top Canadian film award), Christopher Award laureate (also conferred to Clint Eastwood and Oliver Stone).
– I feel greatly honouredhonored to be invited to the festival at Rostov-on-Don. Apart from a brief visit to Russia in 1979 I’ve not travelled anywhere in Russia. This is an exciting prospect for me as I am an admirer not just for of Russian cinema, but literature, painting, music and architecture. Friends of mine who have visited the Rostov festival in previous years were most very enthusiastic about it. They stressed the high standard and exciting diversity of films being screened, - commented Bruce Beresford.

Bruce Beresford was born on August, 16, 1940 in Sydney. He shot several short films in high school. In 1964 he completed got the degree of a Bachelor of Arts at the University if of Sydney. Beresford made completed his first feature film The Adventures of Barry McKenzie in 1972. Breaker Morant released in 1980 brought him international success and first Oscar nomination (in Best Adapted Screenplay category).
The first Hollywood film Tender Mercies earned brought him Academy award nomination for Best Director. Bruce Beresford worked both in the USA and Australia with industry stars. Morgan Freeman, Richard Gere, Jessica Lange, Pierce Brosnan, Liv Tyler, Richards Dreyfuss, John Liyhgow, Eddy Murphey, Tommy Lee Johnes, Sissy Spacek, Diane Keaton and other celebrities starred in his films.
Russian audience is familiar with the following films: Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Black Robe (1991), A Good Man in Africa (1994), Silent Fall (1994), Double Jeopardy (1999), Evelyn (2002), The Contract (2005), Mao’s Last Dancer (2009), Mr. Church (2015), Roots (2016, serial). Bruce Beresford directed about 50 films.
